As the Government axe the Green Deal, Newcastle based charity National Energy Action (NEA) has estimated that over the next 15 years, around 350 elderly people per year could die as a result of living in cold homes unless new energy efficiency measures are introduced.
As director of Enviro UK Consultants and Head of Sustainability for National Association of Women in Construction, our own Sharon Lashley was asked by the Chronicle to give her take on what the Government can do to prevent this.
“With the demise of the many policies including the Zero Carbon Homes plan there will need to be careful consideration to how consumers, businesses, schools and communities can all be supported to be more energy efficient. As an energy efficiency consultant working with all of the latter we can certainly teach our clients how to be more energy efficient, change behaviours and try to live differently but at the end of the day financial incentives and government support measures really do help to incentivise and support consumers to make a difference.”
